Charming Small Hotel Guide

Deliciously fresh and clean, with simple bedrooms that feel good to wake up in and are a joy to come home to. Villa Tartana, a modern pensione, with extensive renovations in 2010, has made a terrific addition to the hotel scene in Positano since it opened in 2000.
The twelve comfortable rooms are all decorated similarly with a strong sea-blue colour scheme that contrasts the white walls. Most have sea views and balconies. Our reporter said that the breakfast is delightful, a 'continental' is served unless otherwise asked, however a full-English is available, and it can be served in your room while you gaze wistfully over the Mediterranean Sea. Owner, Beniamino Caldiero, may be young, but he has the touch.

The Villa La Tartana, owned by the same delightful owners of the Villa Rosa, deserves more than a full page write-up. Very different than the Villa Rosa, which is located high above on the hillside above the main road of town, the Tartana is down at the seaside where one has easier access to restaurants, ferries to Capri, stores, and lounging on the popular beach. A three-story white house snuggled in between others, the bed & breakfast offers comfortable rooms each with its own terrace, many amenities, and the warm hospitality of the Caldiero family. In keeping with the seaside ambiance, local hand-painted tiles from Vietri are used in cool blue tones throughout. A main living room with bright, yellow sofas and colorful paintings of nautical themes is where guests are greeted and daily itineraries are arranged to Amalfi, Sorrento, or Ravello. The best way to get a real taste of Positano is to rent a gozzo boat (with or without a skipper) and view the dramatic coastline from the sea, stopping to swim at various beaches and coves or lunching at one of the delectable, waterside trattorias serving pasta with seafood and other local specialties.

Lonely Planet

Villa La Tartana is a seafront hotel close to Positano's famous Spiaggia Grande beach. It features air-conditioned rooms with the original typical architecture of the Amalfi coast. Interiors at La Tartana Villa include turquoise and blue hand-painted ceramic tiles from Vietri. Rooms and studios all feature a private bathroom, and offer views of the sea or of the village's typical narrow streets. A continental breakfast is available until 10:30 and is served in the breakfast room with sea view. La Tartana is near the centre of Positano, in the pedestrian area with shops and restaurants. Santa Maria Assunta Church is a 5-minute walk from the hotel.
